Mazinger Z live action movie coming soon
Fans of the Japanese Super Robot community and works of Japanese Manga Artist Go Nagai are going to fire up and raise their arms in triumph, as the grandfather of all super robots, Mazinger Z, may finally have a live action movie coming to the big screen soon!
According to a report on Anime News Network, Toei Animation has announced that Go Nagai’s famous robot hero is getting the live action movie adaptation treatment, just in time to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the franchise.
First debuting in manga in October 1972 and later as a full length anime series in December of that same year, Mazinger Z tells the story of the eponymous robot created by Professor Juzo Kabuto to defend humanity against the sinister Mechanical Beasts of mad scientist Dr. Hell.
Piloted by his grandson Koji Kabuto, Mazinger Z fights with a strong arsenal of attacks that includes his signature “Rocket Punch”, “Rust Hurricane”, and “Breast Fire” attacks, and is assisted by Dr. Yumi, his daughter and Koji’s love interest Sayaka, Koji’s younger brother Shiro, and Koji’s rival turned friend Boss.
Since the character’s debut, Mazinger Z has become a pop culture icon inside and outside of Japan and has influenced the Super Robot genre staple of humans piloting their robots and essentially becoming one with them. After its initial 92 episode anime series run, subsequent sequels and spin-off series followed in the robots wake, including successors Great Mazinger, Grendizer, and one of the most powerful incarnations of the Mazingers to date in Mazinkaiser. Mazinger Z has also appeared in video games like Banpresto’s Super Robot Wars series of tactical role playing games, and has been reimagined/ retold in a 2009 anime series called “Shin Majing? Sh?geki! Zetto Hen” (Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact)
Given the temporary title of “ Gekij?ban Mazinger Z” (Mazinger Z The Movie), Toei is set to produce and distribute the film.
To further promote the upcoming movie and well as send news to fans looking for updates, a website has been launched that readers can bookmark and visit for updates.
No release date has been given for the film as of yet. — TJD, GMA News
