Konami reveals Metal Gear Survive for Gamescom 2016

If you are a fan of Metal Gear and series creator Hideo Kojima, chances are you followed the video game prodigy's tumultuous relationship with video game publisher Konami when both parties worked to deliver the supposed final chapter of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.”

From removing Kojima’s name on the box artwork to unceremoniously banning him fromthe 2015 Game Awards, Konami's actions caused much controversy and discussion among fans.

After the release of MGS V, Kojima has since partnered with Sony to develop new IP and games. That didn’t stop Konami from announcing that it would continue making games based off the Metal Gear franchise—and now it has followed it up with its latest game reveal for Gamescom 2016.

Their first post-Kojima attempt combines familiar elements from the series with that of survival horror, as can be seen in the first trailer for “Metal Gear Survive,” – a co-op multiplayer action game that takes place directly after the conclusion of the prologue video game chapter of MGSV – Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.

In the aftermath of Mother Base’s destruction, a lone survivor of MSF is left behind and sucked into a portal. When he comes to, he’s attacked by “zombie-like creatures” and saved in the nick of time by other survivors. The trailer shows what the game is all about: survival in a strange land with only your wits and scavenging whatever tools there are at your disposal to stay alive.

According to IGN and the few details gathered from Konami, Metal Gear Survive will focus on four-way co-op multiplayers using new weapons to fight off enemies. The game will be powered by the same FOX Engine used for MGS V, and will be released for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s not the Metal Gear that you know, but is described as “survival done the Metal Gear way.” — BM, GMA News
