Heroes on fire in ‘Heroes of the Storm’ Summer Global Championship Days 1 - 3


The world’s greatest “Heroes of the Storm” teams have finally made it to the long-awaited HotS Summer Global Championship.

The tournament has been scheduled to take place over six days: June 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, and 20. The first three days took place in Stockholm, Sweden, with the last three days to be set in Jonkoping.

12 teams have gathered for the event, among them Philippines’ own Renovatio, winner of the SEA Summer Regional; and South Korea’s MVP Black, who are the reigning champions after winning the HotS Spring Global Championship.

The teams were grouped into two:


Group A:

Renovatio (Southeast Asia)
MVP Black (South Korea 2nd place)
Negative Synergy (Australia/New Zealand)
X-Team (China 2nd place)
eStar Gaming (China 1st place)
Team Naventic (North America 1st place)


Group B:

mYinsanity (Europe 2nd place)
Please Buff Arthas (Taiwan)
Gale Force Esports (North America 2nd place)
Big Gods (Latin America)
Tempest (South Korea 1st place)
Team Dignitas (Europe 1st place)






DAY ONE, JUNE 13

Day One of the event saw fights between Renovatio, MVP Black, Negative Synergy, X-Team, mYinsanity, Please Buff Arthas, Gale Force Esports, and Big Gods. The double elimination format of the competition determined which bracket each team ended up in.


Group A:

- MVP Black vs. Renovatio

Renovatio showed promise early in Game 1, but they ultimately fell to MVP Black. Final stats: MVP Black Lv22, 23 kills vs. Renovatio Lv20, 5 kills

Game 2 proved a more lopsided victory for MVP Black, with the South Korean team dominating with a 4-level lead over their opponent. Final stats: MVP Black Lv17, 22 kills vs. Renovatio Lv13, 1 kill

Result: MVP Black (2), Renovatio (0)


- X-Team vs. Negative Synergy

In one of the most heart-stopping moments of the tournament so far, Game 1 saw X-Team bringing their opponent’s core down to 1%... then getting wiped out by Negative Synergy at the very last second. X-Team, however, eventually recovered to finish the job. Final Stats: X-Team Lv18, 11 kills vs. Negative Synergy Lv17, 8 kills

X-Team gained a 3-level lead in Game 2, which they won after annihilating the Negative Synergy heroes. Final Stats: X-Team Lv20, 16 kills vs. Negative Synergy Lv17, 4

Result: X-Team (2), Negative Synergy (0)


Group B:

- mYinsanity vs. Please Buff Arthas

In Game 1, mYinsanity scored a decisive victory over PBA, defeating them in less than 14 minutes, and without losing a single life. Final Stats: mYinsanity Lv15, 10 kills vs. PBA Lv13, 0 kills

PBA seemed on top of things in Game 2, until mYinsanity started racking up the kills. Final Stats: mYinsanity Lv19, 12 kills vs. PBA Lv16, 5 kills

Result: mYinsanity (2), Please Buff Arthas (0)


- Gale Force Esports vs. Big Gods

Though Big Gods were slaughtering heroes left and right, the two teams weren’t far apart, level-wise. Then Big Gods killed four GFE heroes, which allowed them to destroy a defenseless core to win Game 2. Final Stats: Big Gods Lv20, 19 kills vs. GFE Lv19, 3 kills

Game 2 was another close match, but GFE secured victory, thanks to the Webweavers and hordes of mercenaries. Final Stats: GFE Lv22, 14 kills vs. Big Gods Lv21, 12 kills

In Game 3, the teams were neck and neck. But Big Gods wilted after the team was wiped out in an attempt to steal a boss from GFE. Final Stats: GFE Lv21, 15 kills vs. Big Gods Lv19, 13 kills

Result: Gale Force Esports (2), Big Gods (1)

DAY TWO, JUNE 14

Day Two had the winners and losers of Group A doing battle to determine who moved forward, and who went home.


- Losers Match: Renovatio vs. Negative Synergy

In Game 1, neither team had any distinct advantage over the other, until Negative Synergy exterminated four Renovatio heroes, leaving their core unprotected. Final Stats: Negative Synergy Lv21, 15 kills vs. Renovatio Lv20, 12 kills

Renovatio exhibited their superiority, securing a 3-level lead over Negative Synergy. Game 2 was over in less than 13 minutes. Final Stats: Renovatio Lv17, 11 kills vs. Negative Synergy Lv14, 4 kills

An extremely close match, Game 3 eventually turned in Renovatio’s favor thanks to multiple kills. Renovatio reaching level 20, then capturing a boss, proved the final nail in Negative Synergy’s coffin. Final Stats: Renovatio Lv22, 14 kills vs. Negative Synergy Lv19, 8 kills

Result: Renovatio (2) vs. Negative Synergy (1)

With two losses, Negative Synergy was disqualified from the tournament.


- Winners Match: MVP Black vs. X-Team

MVP Black ruled Game 1, reaching level 20 first, then wiping out X-Team towards the end to secure victory. Final Stats: MVP Black Lv20, 20 kills vs. X-Team Lv18, 8 kills

MVP Black’s monstrous aggression and peerless strategy won them Game 2. Final Stats: MVP Black Lv17, 16 kills vs. X-Team Lv14, 7 kills

Result: MVP Black (2), X-Team (0)


- Deciders Match: X-Team vs. Renovatio

Despite Renovatio’s initial lead, getting cursed twice and losing several late clashes eventually led their loss. Final Stats: X-Team Lv21, 10 kills vs. Renovatio Lv20, 3 kills

Game two saw X-Team establishing an early lead, but Renovatio surpassed them after winning two brutal clashes. After a disastrous core push, however, Renovatio was wiped out, allowing X-Team to claim victory. Final Stats: X-Team Lv21, 15 kills vs. Renovatio Lv21, 13 kills

Result: X-Team (2), vs. Renovatio (0)

With two losses, Renovatio was forced to drop out of the competition.

MVP Black and X-Team are moving forward to the next leg of their journey, which will commence on Day Four, June 18.

DAY THREE, JUNE 15

Day three had Group B’s winners and losers doing battle to settle who moved forward, and who went home.


- Losers Match: Please Buff Arthas vs. Big Gods

While the teams were initially evenly matched, PBA summoned their Immortal three consecutive times, which allowed them to win Game 1. Final Stats: PBA Lv16, 9 kills vs. Big Gods Lv14, 11 kills

Game 2 was another ridiculously close match. Things went downhill for Big Gods after they were nearly wiped out in a clash for the boss. After taking out four Big Gods heroes, PBA destroyed their core. Final Stats: PBA Lv21, 16 kills vs. Big Gods Lv19, 6 kills

Result: Please Buff Arthas (2), Big Gods (0)

With two losses, Big Gods was eliminated from the tournament.


- Winners Match: mYinsanity vs. Gale Force Esports

Gale Force Esports was leading after summoning the Punisher three times, but mYinsanity’s rigorous counterattacks ultimately helped them win Game 1. Final Stats: mYinsanity Lv22, 11 kills vs. GFE Lv20, 6 kills

Game 2 was back and forth, both teams proving how equally matched they were. After numerous vicious clashes, GFE was leading. But then mYinsanity summoned the Dragon Knight and killed three GFE heroes, helping them seize victory. Final Stats: mYinsanity Lv22, 9 kills vs. GFE Lv22, 9 kills

Result: mYinsanity (2), Gale Force Esports (0)


- Deciders Match: Please Buff Arthas vs. Gale Force Esports

GFE summoned their Immortal three consecutive times, then obliterated PBA towards the end to win Game 1. Final Stats: GFE Lv17, 12 kills vs. PBA Lv16, 5 kills

Yet another close match, Game 2 ultimately turned in PBA’s favor. Reaching Level 20 first and capturing the boss sealed their victory. Final Stats: PBA Lv20, 7 kills vs. GFE Lv19, 4 kills

GFE racked up the kills and consistently maintained their lead throughout Game 3. Despite this, they failed to defend their core from a PBA sneak attack. Final Stats: PBA Lv22, 9 kills vs. GFE Lv23, 19 kills

Result: Please Buff Arthas (2), Gale Force Esports (1)

With two losses, Gale Force Esports was ousted from the tourney.


Both mYinsanity and Please Buff Arthas are moving forward to the next stage of the event, which will begin on Day Five, June 19.

The action continues!

On Day Four to Six (June 18 – 20), the tournament will relocate to Jonkoping, Sweden, as MVP Black, Please Buff Arthas, mYinsanity, and X-Team face Team Naventic, eStar Gaming, Team Dignitas, and Tempest.
