Solar energy farm to power up western Batangas
The 63.3-megawatt solar farm in Calatagan, Batangas could help the country reach it goal of reducing carbon emissions by up to 70 percent before 2030, a report by GMA News' News To Go said.
The almost 200,000 solar panels in a 100-hectare property in Barangay Paraiso were put up by Solar Philippines.
President Benigno Aquino III led the inauguration of the farm Wednesday.
The solar farm is expected to supply the power demand of western Batangas.
Solar Philippines has also established commercial solar farms in Laguna, Quezon City and Capiz.
Last Monday, former US vice president Al Gore urged the Philippines to consider the use of renewable energy sources like solar power. He noted that there is enough solar energy that reaches the earth to fill all the world’s energy needs for a year.
““Why not use solar energy? It doesn’t create pollution, doesn’t create global warming,” Gore said.
