'Flying billboards': The future of advertising?
Look up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a... bilboard?!
Thanks to the growing popularity of personal drones, remote-controlled flight technology has become cost-effective enough for a variety of uses—including advertising.
GMA News' Mark Zambrano got ahold of Flying Promotions' Gerry Cheng, who demonstrated his company's "electric kite".
Powered by an off-the-shelf radio-controlled prop motor, the device's body is made of lightweight foam that allows it to be large enough to carry a meter-wide signboard yet light enough to zip over peoples' heads.
Should its electronics fail, the kite will simply glide to the ground. Larger versions, which can carry signs of up to 80in diagonal size, can be flown outdoors in a strong breeze without motor power.
The National Telecommunications Commission, however, still cautions that such devices may still require registration in the interest of public safety. — TJ Dimacali, GMA News
