NBA2K Online enters open beta testing phase in PHL

Sports fans and gamers alike will be pleased to know that NBA2K Online entered its open beta test period last Tuesday.

As the online evolution of the popular NBA2K sports video games, NBA2K Online features the series’ signature basketball simulation, in addition to the perks that come with having a massive online community.

In the open beta test phase, players will have access to three game modes: My Career, 1v1 NBA Matchup, and 3v3 Streetball.

My Career is a simulation of the challenges a professional basketball player goes through in his career. Players experience the journey of their virtual athlete as he makes his way to the top of the NBA ranks – a journey that involves training, being drafted by a professional team, competing against other teams, and making it to the championships.

Players can assume the roles of real NBA teams in 1v1 NBA Matchup. Available teams include the legendary 1986 Boston Celtics, 1991 Lost Angeles Lakers, and 1996 Chicago Bulls.

3v3 Streetball is set in urban basketball courts, and has two three-player teams face each other in matches lasting four minutes long.
 

The open beta test phase allows players to top up their accounts. Additionally, the Item Mall returns, giving players the opportunity to acquire in-game goods, such as gear and character upgrades. Other items include NBA team jerseys, and action packs that provide characters the ability to perform special moves popularized by professional basketball stars.

NBA2K Online product manager Bryan Dy believes the game has great potential to be the next eSports contender in the country.

“We’re already hearing reports from our partner internet cafe owners that there are players who are now making open challenges to fellow gamers inside the shop,” said Dy. “We’re looking forward to a competitive atmosphere when the tournaments begin.”

There are big plans for NBA2K Online, including the aforementioned tournaments, as well as free play events. We can expect these special events to be held in malls and internet shops sometime in the near future.
