Luchador Pokemon 'Pikachu Libre' enters the Pokken Tournament

If you haven’t heard about it yet, Nintendo and Bandai Namco Games recently collaborated on an actual Pokemon fighting game called “Pokken Tournament”—which debuted in Japanese arcades last July and uses console-style controls to allow two players to take on one another using various creatures featured as selectable fighters.

Popular Pokemon such as Pikachu and Charizard are in the game, as well as other characters like Gardevoir, Suicine, and Machamp, with assist characters like Eevee and Jirachi also playable in the game.

Now, meet the latest combatant to enter this pretty wild and ambitious hybrid of a fighting game, and it’s none other than another Pikachu—but not just any ordinary Pikachu! Meet the cute and wrestling-trained fighter known as “Pikachu Libre”!

As an original version of the popular yellow mouse mascot of the Pokemon franchise, Pikachu Libre—a.k.a. “Masked Pikachu” in the US—pretty much has all the moves you’d expect from a luchador wrestler: body slams, stunners, high-risk turnbuckle maneuvers, and of course suplexes that actually see the thing shout “CHU~!” while performing them! Then there’s adding a Pikachu’s signature moves like “Electric Shock”, and you have a cute but dangerous combination of a fighter for Pokken that is not to be underestimated!
