DOST-ICTO launches ICT month this June

The Department of Science and Technology - Information and Communications Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) formally launched yesterday the beginning of ICT Month this June.

ICT month aims to emphasize not only ICT’s role as a major driving force of economic growth in the country but also the need to implement a national ICT program that will focus on the utilization of ICTs. The theme for this year is, “Internet for All: No Juan Left Behind,” referring to Internet connectivity as a pathway through which people can enhance their knowledge.

DOST-ICTO officially opened ICT Month by commemorating the 150th anniversary of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

The Integrated Government Philippines (iGov) Project Management team will be holding a National ICT Summit to launch PhPay, an electronic payment system, and the Philippine eGovernment Interoperability Framework (PeGif). Both programs were created to improve government processes and service delivery.

The Cybersecurity team will be holding a Cyber Literacy Talk to help educate people on the responsible use of the Internet, especially social media. The talk will tackle Internet etiquette, how to handle threats against personal privacy, information safety, and user’s cyber safety.

The e-Innovation Group will also be conducting a one-day workshop on their SeedPH program which focuses on the use of ICTs in technology startups. — Bea Montenegro/TJD, GMA News
