Starmobile unveils new Digital TV smartphone with mega-battery

Starmobile announced on June 1 the release of their new 5-inch smartphone, the Starmobile UP Max.

The move comes on the heels of a recent push into the implementation of Digital Television (DTV) in the local market by mobile phone makers and broadcasters alike.

Malacañang previously announced that the Philippines will be adopting Japan’s DTV standard once the Philippines makes the transition from analog TV to digital terrestrial television this 2015.

Earlier this year, Starmobile conducted an independent survey showing that local broadcasters were already in the thick of rolling out DTV services, although GMA Network led the pack in terms of signal coverage.

The UP Max is a quad-core Lollipop Android phone with a built-in DTV tuner. The UP Max weighs 175 g, has a profile of 9.6 mm, and a 13 MP Sony BSI camera.

The UP Max’s selling point, however, is its 5,000 mAh battery. According to their website, UP Max’s battery life is up to 24 hours while on call, 10 hours watching DTV, and up to 41.25 days on standby.

Users can watch and record DTV channels on their phone for free and the built-in tuner is compatible with standards in more than 65 countries.

This is also not the first sucn DTV-capable handset that Starmobile has offered: in May, the company unveiled its KNIGHT Vision handset in the local market.
