New Dragonball Anime coming to Japan this July

Looks like fans of Dragonball are going to get something new after all, as a new TV Series handled by creator Akira Toriyama will begin airing on summer of this year on Fuji TV in Japan.

According to Anime News Network, the new series is called Dragon Ball Chou or “Dragon Ball Super”, and will take place after the end of DragonBall Z and the defeat of Majin Buu. Son Goku, the protagonist of the series, will return along with his family, allies, and friends, as they now lead peaceful lives on Earth. However knowing the world of Dragon Ball and its reputation for gathering powerful enemies threatening all life in the universe, it’s certain that a new enemy will rear its ugly head to challenge Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and the rest of the Z Fighters of Earth.

According to Fuji TV Osamu Nozaki, he expects grand things to happen with Super:
“As I read the plot [of the series] I've already received from Akira Toriyama, my dreams for this begin to expand. An enemy even stronger than Buu or Freeza may appear...”

Even Goku voice actor Masako Nozawa commented on the new series: “We've always used the word 'chou' (Super) with Dragon Ball in commercials, games and the like, but the fact that the series titled Dragon Ball Super is beginning is the best thing ever.”

Dragon Ball Super is the first new Dragon Ball anime to air after 18 years since Dragon Ball GT ended. Recently, Japan aired a new film called “Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F”, which featured the return of Frieza and the protagonist battling Goku and his allies once again. The film will see a worldwide release sometime later this year.
