Think your regular Rubik’s cube is tough? Try a 17x17x17 one

If you think solving a regular 3x3x3 Rubik's cube is tough enough, you might want to try one that's 17x17x17.

YouTube user Kenneth Brandon (RedKB) posted on his channel a video showing him solving a giant Rubik's cube with 17 tiles on each side.

How much time did he need to solve the puzzle? Nearly eight hours. Anyone who has that much time to spare can watch the full video. posted last November:

Dubbed "Over the Top," the 17x17x17 cube is a special one created in 2011 by Dutch puzzle designer Oskar van Deventer.

"This puzzle was 3D-printed using nylon-powder SLS technology, which explains its price. It is the very first prototype, costing its designer and maker a lot of money to create. Please do not confuse it for a cheap mass-produced puzzle," van Deventer said.

Gizmodo's Toyland said there are 66.9 quinquagintatrecentillion possible ways to scramble a 17x17x17 Rubik's Cube.

That figure would be 6.69 * 10^1054, written out there would be over a thousand zeroes, it said.

"The way you solve a 17 by 17 is just like you would a seven by seven, or a five by five. If you can solve one of those then the 17 by 17 isn’t that hard, but it is very, very tedious," The Verge quoted Brandon as saying. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
