Dexter, Chuckie, and Babe the Pig fall silent as voice actress passes

Beloved characters from the 90's such as Cartoon Network's Dexter; Nickelodeon's Chuckie Finster; and Universal's Babe the Pig have lost their voices forever with the passing of their behind-the-screen actress, Christine Cavanaugh, this week.

Cavanaugh died Dec. 22, according to online memorial site Legacy.com, which cited an obituary published in the Los Angeles Times.

It said Cavanaugh, born Aug. 16, 1963, started her acting career in 1988 and went on to voice several characters while making TV and movie appearances.

Among the characters she brought to life were:

  • Goslyn Duck from Dark Wing Duck, 1991
  • Chuckie (Rugrats), 1991 to 2003
  • Marty Sherman (The Critic), 1994 to 1995
  • Oblina (Ahhhhh Real Monsters), 1994 to 1997
  • Babe (Babe), 1995
  • Dexter (Dexter's Laboratory), 1996 to 2003

She retired from her voice acting in 2001 to be closer to her family she had no biological children but was the godmother to Isabel Torres, daughter of her childhood friend Susan Torres.

Her obituary read, in part:

Her imagination, humor and intelligence were evident to anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. It was of no surprise when she was able to share her talents with the world. Many know of her from the roles she played, but in each role there was a part of her showing through that the ones who truly knew her could see. The childlike awe of the world, humor to deal with the unpleasantness of reality, strength to deal with the challenges we all face, and intelligence to know when to act or accept what fate had allowed.

A separate article on Consequence of Sound said Cavanaugh also had on-screen roles, including guest appearances on E.R., Everybody Loves Raymond, Wings, and The X-Files.

But it said she may be most recognized in person as Mrs. Remo from Jerry Maguire.

The cause of her untimely passing was not mentioned.  — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
