Free WiFi in Manila for Papal visit


In a report by State of the Nation’s Tina Panganiban-Perez, the Manila government stated that they would be setting up free WiFi hotspots in January in time for Pope Francis’s visit to the Philippines.
 
 
In order for people to be able utilize social media and smartphones to keep each other updated about the events surrounding the Papal visit, people need to have access to the Internet.
 
WiFi will be available at España, Taft, Lawton, Kalaw, Roxas Boulevard, and Rizal Park. The antennae to be set up were donated by an American company from Silicon Valley in the United States.
 
Once the pope leaves, the free WiFi remains. “Once we (start), all the way na yan. Manila will (become a) WiFi city,” said Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno.
 
During his visit to the Philippines, Pope Francis will be going to UST on January 18 to meet with religious leaders and representatives from different youth organizations.
 
On January 15, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sales Avenue going towards Andrews Avenue while be closed, up to Domestic Road. It will be closed again on January 19, from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m.
 
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines also released a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) about the flights that will be affected by the Papal visit. — Bea Montenegro/TJD, GMA News
