Cebu jail starts e-dalaw system for inmates' kin
A jail in Cebu province is turning to the Internet to bridge the gap between some inmates and their relatives, especially those who live far from the facility.
The Lapu-Lapu City Jail's new "e-Dalaw" system, the first in the province, links inmates to their families via apps like Skype, GMA Cebu's Chona Carreon reported Monday.
Jail officials implemented the system after a religious group donated computer sets to the facility.
Under the system, inmates can get up to 15 minutes to talk with their loved ones virtually.
The program also aims to decongest the jail, as officials noted there are many visitors who go there.
The report said the jail facility has some 1,200 inmates, and 500 people people go there to visit every day.
Such a big number of visitors has been a concern for jail guards tasked to ensure the security of the facility. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
