WATCH: Real-life Transformer ready to roll out

It's not quite from Cybertron, but it can transform and roll out.

Meet J-deite Quarter, the robot built by Brave Robotics Inc., Asratec Corp. and Tomy Co. It can walk, move its hands—and, yes, it transforms into a working car.

A video showing the project's progress indicated J-deite Quarter - so-called because it is just 1/4 the size of the final version - can already move, walk and run..

The robot even has its own back story on its website.

Its creators hope to build a half-scale version of the life-sized transformer robot by 2016.

"(W)e will continue to proceed research to complete the next goal, 'J-deite Half' of 2.5 meters long, a half of the final goal in 2016," they said.

A separate article on tech site Mashable described the robot as having the "grim, determined look of Optimus Prime."

"J-deite is not a toy. As a car, the two-seater can drive up to 6 mph with about 1.5-inches of road clearance. In humanoid mode, it can walk at .6 mph and move its arms, hands and fingers," Mashable said.

The robot uses proprietary software system V-Sido, developed by Ishido’s partner Wataru Yoshizaki of Asratec Corp. It can operate for an hour on a single charge.

Mashable said the first version of the robot came out in 2012, but was desktop-sized.

It also said it remains unclear if the robot would be an official part of the Transformers continuity, noting Hasbro "has been mum on the subject of this robot." — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
