Disney planning new ‘Frozen’ short film

Though already nearly a year old, the Frozen dreadnought remains an implacable force of nature, with merchandise ranging from dolls to video games littering retail stores; several new books extending the film’s plot already being written; and the film’s beloved characters set to appear in the upcoming season of television fantasy drama, “Once Upon a Time”.

But Disney has another surprise that will ensure fans will never, ever, be able to let go of one of the most celebrated animated franchises in recent history. A new animated short, entitled “Frozen Fever”, will be welcoming Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf back to our screens early in 2015.

The film is directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, with Peter Del Vecho serving as the producer. Songwriting duo Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez are also returning with a brand new song. And of course, what’s a revisit to the kingdom of isolation without ‘Frozen’ voice acting alumni, Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad reprising their roles?

The reveal was made in ABC Television Network’s special, “The Story of Frozen: Making an Animated Classic”.

“It’s Anna’s birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa’s icy powers may put more than just the party at risk,” states the short film’s plot description according to Disney.

Grossing over $1.27 billion worldwide, “Frozen”, which was released on November 22 of last year, is now the highest-grossing animated film of all time. It was the recipient of two Oscar Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Let it Go”. — TJD, GMA News
