Snoopy still a dog

After many had their childhood shocked by Sanrio's revelation that Hello Kitty isn't a cat, they can now rest assured that another beloved character — Snoopy — is still a dog.

Peanuts, the comic strip that stars Snoopy and his human gang, posted the assurance on Twitter hours after anthropologist Christine Yano's revelation went viral online.

"We can confirm, Snoopy IS a dog," it said on its Twitter account.

Snoopy debuted Oct. 4, 1950. His last appearance in a comic strip was on Feb. 13, 2000.

Yano told the Los Angeles Times she was preparing her written texts for Hello Kitty's 40th anniversary exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum when her attention was called to her description of Hello Kitty as a cat.

"I was corrected — very firmly.... That's one correction Sanrio made for my script for the show. Hello Kitty is not a cat. She's a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat," she said. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
