Samsung's virtual reality headset may launch in September

Samsung is working on a virtual reality headset that may be coupled with its upcoming smartphone, a tech site has reported.

The Verge said Samsung may show its VR headset, presetly codenamed "Project Moonlight," at a product event in September.

It described "Project Moonlight" as bearing a resemblance to Google's "Cardboard," a do-it-yourself VR contraption that works with lenses and special software.

"Besides the lenses, Project Moonlight appears to have a focus dial and may have a Micro USB connection to the phone. The headset is pictured here next to a Galaxy S5, but given the positioning alongside the Note 4 launch, it's almost certain that the newest phone in Samsung's smartphone stable will be compatible," it said.

Like Cardboard, the Samsung project aims to "turn a smartphone display into an immersive world," The Verge added.

On the other hand, The Verge said it is not clear if Oculus, which uses Samsung's Note 3 display in some newer headsets, is involved in Samsung's VR attempt. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
