Tetsuya Nomura's Batman is his most vicious depiction to date

The San Diego Comic-Con International is in full swing this week, and as thousands of attendees and fans flock to San Diego, California to attend the glorious event that features multiple genres and interests, preview night has opened the doors to showcase upcoming toys and collectibles that are set for release as early as late this year or sometime in 2015.

As the whole year celebrates the 75th Anniversary of DC Comics’ Dark Knight hero Batman, Square-Enix and Final Fantasy/ Kingdom Hearts lead Tetsuya Nomura have done something special to commemorate The Caped Crusader’s milestone event.

In the tradition of his artistic works and style used in the Japanese Role-Playing Games he has cemented his legacy in, Nomura has designed and built an interpretation of Batman that looks both demonic and majestic—and is immortalized as the latest collectible to come out of Square-Enix’s highly successful Play Arts Kai line of action figures.

The figure is currently on display at the Square-Enix booth at SDCC, which runs well until Sunday, July 27. Images of the figure have surfaced online at Tomopop.com and Kotaku.com.

As the newest figure in the DC Comics Variant subline of figures for Play Arts Kai, Nomura’s Batman looks like a knight clad in dark armor, with wings that in itself have it’s own claws similar to the creature that the Caped Crusader embraces as his symbol to instill fear against his enemies.

The design draws plenty of inspiration from the beasts and summoned creatures, particularly the creature known as Bahamut, named after the fish of the same name that supports the Earth in Arab mythology. In the Final Fantasy games, Bahamut is known as “The Dragon King”, and is known for unleashing powerful attacks such as the “Megaflare” to inflict powerful damage on almost any enemy the player encounters in the game.

With the look, feel, and design of the figure boasting it as the largest figure of the series to date, Tetsuya Nomura’s take on The Dark Knight for Play Arts Kai is another worthy contribution to the legacy of The Batman, especially during the character’s 75th Anniversary.  Internet reactions to the reveal have seen fans nicknaming the figure as “Bathamut” or “Bathamutman”, but there’s no denying that the toy looks intimidating as it is beautiful for collectors to grab up when it’s finally released. — TJD, GMA News
