Behold the Grand Budapest Hotel—in LEGO

The Grand Budapest Hotel, the star of a comedy-drama film by US director Wes Anderson, has made the jump from reel to real life, at least as an elaborate LEGO construction.

A team of builders led by LEGO master model builder Ryan Ziegelbauer spent 575 hours to build the replica hotel using 50,000 bricks.

It helped that the team members were all fans of Anderson, as they completed the feat in time for the release of the film on DVD and Blu-ray on June 17, Tuesday.

"To construct the model, more than 50,000 certified LEGO bricks from collectors and wholesalers were sourced from Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Germany, Italy and 14 different states in the US," said the YouTube video featuring the construction.

A separate article on UK-based T3.com said the finished product weighed 150 pounds, stood seven feet tall and was 6.5 feet wide.

"The end result is amazingly accurate when compared the movie poster of the castle-like hotel," it added.

It added the project was organized by the film studio to coincide with film's DVD and Blu-ray release. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
