VIDEO: A metal rock tribute to 40 years of video gaming

Here's something hardcore for hardcore gaming fans: a 17-minute metal number that spans some 40 years of video gaming.

The metal tribute posted by FamilyJules7x on video sharing site YouTube gives a nod to 38 songs from classic video games dating back to 1972.

"I've been planning something like this since the very beginning of my YouTube videos as I was greatly inspired by the Mario Paint video Evolution of Video Gaming, not to mention people like Fredde Gredde who put countless songs in one video and still made it enjoyable regardless of the length. I hope this video does everything I hoped it would for you and really take you on a journey through the amazing short life video gaming has had since 1972," FamilyJules7x said.

He said he began the medley a week and a day before it was released.

Also, he said he had "a ridiculously fun time making this."

In the song list, along with the song length, are:

0:07 Pong
0:17 Gunfight
0:21 Space Invaders
0:30 Pac-man
0:37 Frogger

A separate article on Kotaku.com noted what was more impressive than the metal rendering of the songs was the research that went into this.

"It's quite the feat musically, sure, but I'm actually more impressed by the amount of research that went into this. It's easy to cover the Halo theme. It's a lot harder to rock out to Phozon's soundtrack," it said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
