Don't blink: A hologram pops out when you play this vinyl LP
This isn't quite your grandfather's vinyl LP - it may still need a turntable to play music, but it gives viewers a treat: a hologram.
A record produced by Third Man Records dubbed ULTRA LP contains a hand-etched hologram, the first of its kind on a vinyl disc.
"Over the past five years, Third Man Records has brought to life many ideas that are new to the century-old vinyl format. So, when it came time for the creative hive to discuss the vision for the pressing of Jack White's Lazaretto, we were keenly aware of what it would take to produce a piece of wax worthy of the music it would contain," Third Man Store said in a YouTube video.
A separate report on tech site io9.com said the visual effect looks like a "holographic angel."
TMR said the hologram, found at the dead wax area on Side A, is by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science.
Also, it said the record has two vinyl-only hidden tracks hidden beneath the center labels, with one playing at 78 RPM and the other at 45 RPM.
The record also has dual-groove technology where it plays an electric or acoustic intro for "Just One Drink" depending on where the needle is dropped. Grooves meet for the body of the song.
A separate report on io9.com said former White Stripes frontman Jack White called the vinyl edition of his new album an ULTRA LP, "a mish-mash of pre-existing vinyl gimmicks."
The album is available for pre-order on Third Man Records' site and on iTunes. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
