Ominous Mega Man poster hints at dark days of future past

Fighting the good fight for over 25 years, Capcom’s video game sidescrolling hero Mega Man has entertained and traversed through various video game systems and platforms to combat Dr. Wily, various Robot Masters, and the forces of evil from subjecting humanity to their own selfish whims.

With over 50 games featuring the Blue Bomber or an incarnation of his, the brainchild of creators Akira Kitamura, Tokuro Fujiwara, and Keiji Inafune has captured the hearts and minds of people around the world, inspiring others with his adventures by not giving up no matter how overwhelming the odds are and making a difference at the same time.

However, Mega Man’s world may certainly come crashing down come Spring 2014, as a new teaser poster released by Capcom and Archie Comics showcases his futuristic counterpart, Mega Man X, and his supporting cast finding the derelict helmet of the original Blue Bomber in an abandoned underground cave.

What this means is a mystery with no text or description accompanying the image, but one thing remains certain: Worlds will collide, as past and future Mega Man universes meet for one epic adventure.

The teaser poster also coincides with a related story a few months back, when Archie Comics’ executive director of editorial Paul Kaminski told IGN that Mega Man X would be added to the regular Mega Man comic as a series of back up tales starting this February with issue #34.

“From day one, we knew we wanted to get to Mega Man X. It was just a matter of how and when. X is almost a completely different animal from the classic Mega Man franchise. You need to approach it from exactly the right perspective, style, and build-up. Now that all the pieces are in place, we can finally do all those things and make the X stories that the fans have been demanding.”

As the first and one of the most popular spin-off series of the franchise, Mega Man X is set in a futuristic world in the 22nd Century, and stars the titular character “X”, who was sealed away for a 100 years after the original Mega Man series. As the last creation of Dr. Thomas Light (the creator of Mega Man), , and is discovered by scientist Dr. Cain, who creates robots called “Reploids” patterned after X’s unique capacity for emotion and free will. This unfortunately leads also to the creation of the rebellious robots known as “Mavericks”, who turn to crime and go rogue for their own ambitions. As a result, a police group called the “Maverick Hunters” is formed, with X joining the group and partnering with the mysterious hunter Zero to fight for peaceful coexistence between Humans and Reploids.

No date or additional information has been given about the Mega Man and Mega Man X crossover, save for the release of the backup Mega Man X stories starting this February with Mega Man #34. — TJD, GMA News
