Acer's Star Trek-themed 'USS Enterprise' laptop out for charity

Computer maker Acer has created Star Trek-inspired special editions of its Aspire R7 hybrid device for auction to charity.

 

Only 25 of these special-edition Aspire R7s, which were built to resemble the Starship Enterprise, have been created—and of these 25, only one is up for auction.

 

"The net proceeds from the auction, which runs from June 14 to 24, will go to two charities: The Mission Continues and Save the Children," tech site Mashable reported.

 

It said Acer's device has a "unique hinged design resembling the series' Starship Enterprise" along with a "Star Trek" logo.

 

Buyers will also get a "Star Trek Into Darkness" poster signed by the film crew.

 

But Mashable noted the R7, even minus the "Star Trek" goodies, packs a punch: a 15.6-inch, 1080p touchscreen, an 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 processor and a 500GB hard drive. — TJD, GMA News
