Mozilla releases game-ready Firefox test build

The future of browser-based games just got little more epic, after Mozilla demonstrated a nightly build of its Firefox browser that can run a port of the tech demo Epic Citadel.

Mozilla's Firefox Nightly 23 handled a port of Epic Citadel, which uses Epic's Unreal Engine 3 port for the open-source browser, tech site T3.com said.

"The game was ported to Javascript using the new browser-based engine. Significantly, it was the first game to make use of the engine on the iPhone after it was ported to support iOS devices in 2009," T3.com said.

It quoted Epic as saying the performance of Epic Citadel on Firefox "rivals native" with "stunning" visuals.

For now, however, there is no actual game to play. The present Epic Citadel on Firefox is "just a scenic tour."

On the other hand, a separate article on Geeky Gadgets said the demo may soon be ported to rival browsers like Google's Chrome.

"Until then, running around inside a serene version of Infinity Blade using the same software that displays their Facebook pages will remain the province of the open source crowd," it said. — TJD, GMA News
