Radio Veritas website hacked, defaced

Hackers on Sunday morning defaced the website of a Philippine Catholic radio station, but left no trace of the motive for the attack. As of 8:20 a.m., visitors to the website of Radio Veritas were greeted with a blank page, with a broken link to an image file. "PWned by MjRm511 ... MjRm511@GmaiL.Com," read the text on the blank page.

The line "PWned by MjRm511" also replaced the title on the radio station's home page. However, the defaced page also contained a broken link to an image. There was no message from the hacker. The hack came in the thick of fresh debates on the controversial reproductive health (RH) bill, which the Catholic Church strongly opposes. Philippine Catholic Church officials are against the RH bill for its provisions allowing artificial contraception. The Church favors natural family planning. Radio Veritas, run by the Manila Archdiocese, had played a major role in the 1986 EDSA Revolution when the late Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin used it to rally Filipinos against then President Ferdinand Marcos. — LBG, GMA News
