Victorinox debuts 1TB USB thumbdrive and Swiss Army knife

MacGyver didn't see this one coming.

Victorinox, the renowned maker of Swiss Army products, launched a whopping 1 terabyte (1,000 gigabyte) combination USB thumbdrive and Swiss Army knife at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, tech site CNET reported.

“This is a tiny portable storage device about the size of the small-size popular Swiss Army tool set. In fact, the storage part can be pulled out and collapsed into its case just like you can do with a Swiss Army knife,” it said.

CNET quoted Victorinox as saying the Swiss Army SSD is the world’s smallest high-capacity SSD drive on the market, the only thumb-size storage device that supports USB (2.0 and 3.0) and eSATA connections.

It said it is also the only SSD device that comes with a Bi-Stable graphic display for labeling contents.

The graphic display is a tiny 48—x-96-dot LCD that displays a label that stays on even when the drive is not plugged in, CNET said.

Also, the SSD has automatic backup and synchronization with AES 256 security encryption, to keep data safe.

But the new gadget, with a storage of 64 GB to 1 TB, will also set back prospective buyers much – from $470 to $2,000, and may be available for purchase by April 2012. — TJD, GMA News
