Quadrantid meteor shower to be visible on early Friday morning
The Quadrantid Meteor Shower may be visible in some parts of the Philippines on Friday.
According to PAGASA’s astronomical diary for January, the Quadrantids have been active since December 26 and will remain active until January 12.
The event is expected to reach peak activity on January 3, and may become observable starting at 1:10 a.m. when constellation Boötes rises above the horizon.
The meteor shower will produce its best display at around 5:00 a.m. with over 120 meteors per hour and remain active until 5:56 a.m.
PAGASA also suggested that viewers choose an observation spot away from city lights.
“Meteor showers are observable through the naked eye, and no special equipment such as telescopes or binoculars is needed. Maximize the viewing experience by choosing a dark observation site away from the city lights under clear and moonless sky conditions,” PAGASA said. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
