Kanlaon Volcano had 2 ashing events, 14 earthquakes
Two ashing events were reported in Kanlaon Volcano on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Thursday.
In its bulletin, PHIVOLCS said 14 volcanic earthquakes were also recorded over the volcano. This is higher than the 10 volcanic earthquakes on Tuesday.
PHIVOLCS observed a voluminous emission of plumes from the volcano reaching up to 750 meters tall, which drifted in the northeast direction.
Kanlaon Volcano also emitted 4,900 tons of sulfur dioxide gas on Wednesday. This is higher compared to the 2,066 tons of sulfur dioxide gas recorded on Tuesday.
The volcano edifice is inflated, according to PHIVOLCS.
PHIVOLCS said Alert Level 2 remains over Kanlaon Volcano, which means there is an increased unrest and sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may occur in the volcano.
Under Alert Level 2, entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and the flying of any aircraft close to the volcano are prohibited.
