DOST, DLSU, DEVCON to create PH climate resilience platform
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), De La Salle University (DLSU), and non-profit organization DEVCON Philippines (DEVCON) will develop a platform that will provide the country with climate resilience solutions.
Together with other government agencies, they will establish the Climate Resilience Technology (CResT) platform that will provide climate resilience solutions, such as life-saving early warning systems, expanding access to renewable energy, enhancing disaster resilience, and pioneering reforestation through robotics.
According to DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr., the innovative technologies will be tested, scaled, and implemented across the Philippines.
"The Philippines is ready to lead in global climate action with tech-driven solutions. Through CResT, we will turn challenges into opportunities, positioning our nation as a global hub for climate tech innovation, where we develop and scale transformative solutions to meet urgent and future needs," Solidum said in a press release.
To recall, the World Risk Index has ranked the Philippines as the most disaster-prone country among 183 countries across the globe.
For its part, the DEVCON will lead when it comes to technology innovation as it ensures that climate solutions are developed and scaled rapidly.
"The climate crisis is a race against time, and technology is our fastest vehicle to win. Through CResT, we are not only protecting our communities but also establishing the Philippines as a leader in climate tech," DEVCON Founder Winston Damarillo said.
The DEVCON, or DevConnect Philippines Inc., describes itself as the "largest community of software developers, geeks, and tech future makers." It has nationwide chapters and programs that "provide a space to share knowledge, solve challenges, and develop impactful initiatives through technology."
Meanwhile, the DLSU Animo Labs, the university's research and development arm, will provide cutting-edge research infrastructure and resources.
The DLSU will also provide expertise in research commercialization, venture creation, and other support services to ensure that the climate solutions can help prevent losses of income, time, and productivity. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
