PHIVOLCS logs 3 quakes at Kanlaon Volcano

Three volcanic earthquakes have been recorded at Kanlaon Volcano since Sunday midnight, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) bulletin showed Monday.

From Sunday to Monday, PHIVOLCS said Kanlaon Volcano also emitted a 300-meter tall plume which drifted east, and was considered “moderate.”

The volcano, which is located in Negros Island, also generated 2,968 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux on Saturday, August 3.

Its edifice also remained inflated.

Kanlaon Volcano is currently at Alert Level 2 due to an “increased unrest” following its explosive eruption on June 3.

PHIVOLCS warned that entry into the volcano’s 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone, and flying any aircraft close to it are prohibited.

Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may also occur. — Giselle Ombay/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
