Magnitude 5.5 earthquake recorded offshore Catanduanes

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred in the waters of Gigmoto, Catanduanes on Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The earthquake was recorded at 8:41 a.m, PHIVOLCS said in its Earthquake Information No. 1.

Its epicenter was traced to 14.05°N, 125.06°E - 078 km N 68° E of Gigmoto.

The earthquake had a depth of 10 km and was tectonic in origin.

No damage and aftershocks are expected, PHIVOLCS said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
