Less volcanic activity observed in Kanlaon —PHIVOLCS

Less seismic activity was recorded at Kanlaon Volcano, with only one volcanic earthquake logged since Wednesday midnight, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Thursday.

However, Alert Level 2 remains raised in Kanlaon as steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may still occur, according to PHIVOLCS.

On Wednesday, Kanlaon Volcano emitted 2,792 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux. It also generated a moderate 300-meter tall plume, which drifted south-southwest and southwest.

Kanlaon Volcano erupted on June 3. 2024, displacing thousands of residents in Negros Occidental.

PHIVOLCS warned that entry into Kanlaon Volcano’s 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone, and flying any aircraft close to the volcano are prohibited.
