Kanlaon Volcano emits taller plumes
Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island released taller plumes on Friday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
In its latest bulletin, PHIVOLCS said the volcano had a voluminous emission of plumes up to 2,000 meters tall, drifting northeast and southwest.
This is higher compared to the 1,500-meter plumes recorded on Thursday.
Kanlaon Volcano’s edifice remained inflated.
Meanwhile, other reported parameters in the volcano decreased.
From 27 volcanic earthquakes on Thursday, only 14 were reported on Friday. From 3,464 tonnes of sulfur dioxide emission on Wednesday, only 1,412 tonnes were recorded on Thursday.
On June 3, Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island had a phreatic eruption emitting plumes that rose to 5,000 meters.
Gray cohesive mud, plant debris, and gravel have been deposited by lahar along four waterways in La Castellana and Canlaon.
Alert Level 2 was raised over the volcano, which means “increased unrest.” Possible hazards are sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.
Due to this, entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) as well as flying any aircraft close to the volcano are prohibited.
Damage to agriculture due to Kanlaon Volcano's eruption was pegged at almost P1.5 million, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) —VAL, GMA Integrated News
