Magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolts Marihatag, Surigao del Sur
A magnitude 5.2 earthquake shook Surigao del Sur on Thursday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
In a report, PHIVOLCS said the tectonic earthquake took place 12:45 p.m. and was located at Marihatag town. It also had a depth of six kilometers.
The quake was felt at Intensity III in Bislig, Surigao del Sur.
Instrumental intensities, meanwhile, were felt in the following areas:
- Intensity II - City of Tandag, SURIGAO DEL SUR
- Intensity I - City of Bislig, SURIGAO DEL SUR; Nabunturan, DAVAO DE ORO; City of Gingoog, MISAMIS ORIENTAL
PHIVOLCS said no damage was expected from the quake but aftershocks are possible.
The quake was the latest to hit Surigao del Sur province after the magnitude 7.4 in Hinatuan on Saturday evening that left three people dead and affected 200,228 individuals or 57,893 families.
Surigao del Norte is currently under state of calamity following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/KBK, GMA Integrated News
