What is the biggest sea creature that lived on Earth? Kuya Kim answers

A family in Siquijor possess and process amulets called "Ngipin ng Kidlat (lightning tooth)."

However, the amulet is not from lightning but from a tooth of one of the biggest fishes that lived on the planet - the megalodon shark.

According to Kuya Kim's report on “24 Oras” Friday, the megalodon shark can grow up to 15 to 18 meters, which is three times bigger than the great white shark.

Megalodons are believed to have lived 23 to 3.6 million years ago.

The scientific name of megalodon is Otodus megalodon. Megalodon came from two Greek words: megas, which means big, and odous, which means tooth. When combined, it translates to big teeth.

Because sharks have no bones and only cartilage, their archaeological history is observed through their teeth.

The longest fossil teeth of a megalodon were discovered in Peru and measured 7.48 inches.

Before they became extinct, megalodon sharks were the largest fish in the world. — Carby Basina/BAP, GMA Integrated News
