5 volcanic tremors, 2,800-meter plume recorded in Taal Volcano—PHIVOLCS
Five volcanic tremors and a low-level background tremor were recorded in Taal Volcano in the last 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said on Friday.
Based on its update, PHIVOLCS said these volcanic tremors last for three to eight minutes.
The volcano emitted plumes that rose up to 2,800 meters and drifted southwest, north, northeast, and southeast, according to PHIVOLCS.
Alert Level 1 was maintained over the volcano.
Taal released 13,572 tonnes of sulfur dioxide on Thursday.
PHIVOLCS also observed a slight inflation of Taal Volcano Island and Western Taal Caldera, and a deflation of Eastern Taal Caldera.
On April 27, the temperature of the main crater of Taal was at 66.5 ?.
PHIVOLCS prohibited the entry into Taal Volcano Island or the permanent danger zone, especially the main crater and Daang Kastila fissures as well as occupancy and boating on Taal Lake.
Flying any aircraft close to the volcano is also not allowed.
PHIVOLCS warned of possible hazards such as steam-driven or phreatic or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
