Aubrey Miles says daughter Rocket taught them a different kind of love after autism diagnosis
With their daughter Rocket being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Aubrey Miles said she and husband Troy Montero have been taught a different kind of love.
In an episode of "Secret Guest with Pia Arcangel," Aubrey said Rocket’s diagnosis was one of the biggest challenges in their lives. However, she is still thankful that she can live a normal life.
“She can talk. It’s late, but hindi siya yung pipi,” she said. “Sa amin, that’s the biggest achievement and challenge (na) how to do it. Ready kami.”
According to Aubrey, it was through their youngest daughter that she and Troy realized how they could still bring a new kind of parenting into their family.
“She taught us how to just not love but a different kind of love tapos yung ibang bonding,” she said.
“Yung relationship namin ni Troy, parang, 'may ibibigay pa pala tayo.’ Akala mo ito na yung best love. Hindi pa pala, so ang dami lang namin natutunan,” she added.
“‘Di pa namin alam kung ano pa ang mangyayari, 'di 'ba? Everything is unpredictable with her, so inaantay namin ano ba ang kaya namin ibigay [sa kanya].”
Aubrey said they are also grateful that they caught Rocket’s diagnosis at an early age because they can see their improvement as time goes by,
“Nakikita namin yung process na paano siya matuto mag eye contact. Before kasi as in no eye contact. Tumitingin na siya,” she said. “Oh my God, it’s (an) achievement.”
Apart from her and Troy, Aubrey said their 13-year-old son Hunter also helps out in caring for Rocket.
“Nakita ko kay Hunter, parang he is adulting a little bit faster, advanced because he has to watch her.”
“Even like change diaper kasi tinatanggal [ni Rocket] ang diaper niya. ‘Mommy, I’ll change her diaper, mga gano’n. Nakakatuwa.”
Aubrey and Troy shared that Rocket has Autism Spectrum Disorder last April, saying that they are still learning about the condition.
In June, the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony after 18 years of being together. — LA, GMA News
