Have you ever seen water catching fire? Kuya Kim explains how it occurs

Water is known to kill fire, but did you know that some of it can catch flames when lit?

According to Kuya Kim on "24 Oras," Monday, this is because water from underground has natural gas, which is formed through a decomposing matter that is formed in millions of years.

"Ang major component niya ay colorless and odorless gas so very flammable ito kaya kapag sisindihan, umaapoy talaga siya," said chemist Janir Ty Datukan.

("Its major component is colorless and odorless gas so this is very flammable and will catch fire when lit.")

In the Philippines, Mindanao is rich in natural gas, but the Liguasan Marsh in Maguindanao is believed to have the most of it. According to the Philippine National Oil Company, its gas deposit is around 68 billion cubic feet.

Maguindanao's local government makes sure to equip locals with the right knowledge for safety. Investors who wish to develop an area also need to follow the Special Agreement for Protected Areas.
