A peek at Taal Volcano’s main crater

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Wednesday shared a photo of the main crater of Taal Volcano in Batangas.

The photo, taken at 10:08 a.m. using real-time IP camera, showed the seemingly serene lake inside the crater amid a barren landscape.

Alert Level 2 was raised over the volcano on Tuesday due to increased unrest with more volcanic earthquakes and acidity recorded.

Over the past 24 hours, 51 volcanic earthquakes were recorded, which included tremors with durations of one to four minutes. 

PHIVOLCS reminded the public that Taal Volcano Island remains off limits.

Six persons, including three minors caught doing Facebook live at the crater lake of the restive Taal Volcano were sent to jail on Tuesday.

The Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office on Tuesday said it is preparing for the possible evacuation of residents living around Taal Volcano. —KG, GMA News
