Meteor shower awaits Philippine stargazers on Tuesday, Nov. 17

A Leonids meteor shower awaits Philippine stargazers late Tuesday night and it may last until the wee hours of Wednesday, according to PAGASA's astronomical diary for November 2020.

"A zenithal hourly rate (ZHR) of about 15 meteors might occur in the late hours of November 17 until dawn of the following day," PAGASA said on its website.

The state weather bureau describes the Leonids meteor shower as "[o]ne of the most prolific meteor showers."

"Its radiant is in the constellation Leo which is located in the eastern section of the sky at dawn...", PAGASA says.

The Leonids Meteor Shower is created by bits of debris left behind by the repeat passages through the inner solar system of comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, according to PAGASA. —KBK, GMA News
