Magnitude 5.4 aftershock hits Batanes on Saturday
A moderate aftershock measuring magnitude 5.4 occurred in Itbayat, Batanes on Saturday morning.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the quake was recorded at 9:24 a.m.
It was tectonic in origin and had its epicenter at 21.39° north, 122.12° east - 072 km north 23° east of Itbayat.
It had a depth of 5 kilometers.
Intensity IV was felt in Basco.
PHIVOLCS said this quake was an aftershock of the magnitude 5.9 earthquake that occurred past 7 a.m.
Damage is expected, but no more aftershocks will happen, said PHIVOLCS.
Itbayat was rocked by an earlier earthquake at 4:16 a.m.
It measured magnitude 5.4.
At least seven people were killed after they were pinned down by the walls of their limestone homes. —KG, GMA News
