Typhoon expected to enter PAR on Saturday — JTWC

A typhoon is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday, according to the forecast track of the US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC).

According to a Balita Pilipinas report, the JWTC has classified Yutu as a supertyphoon, though both PAGASA and the Japan Meteorological Agency still class it as a typhoon.

As reported on Balitanghali on Wednesday, the typhoon bears the international name Yutu and will be locally named Rosita when it enters PAR.

In its 4 p.m. update, PAGASA said that Yutu's center was 2,450 km east of Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 185 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 225 kph.

It is moving towards the west-northwest at a speed of 20 kph.

According to Metraweather, the typhoon is unlikely to make landfall in the Philippines, but there may still be a change in its course in the following days. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
