Connie Sison, GMA Public Affairs Social Media Section winners in DOST's Bantog awards
GMA Network's Connie Sison and GMA Public Affairs Social Media Section were among the first recipients of Bantog awards given by the Department of Science and Technology — Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII).
Sison was chosen to receive the Bantog award for Media Practitioner in Television for her program Pinoy MD. Her P100,000 cash reward will be donated to Kapuso Foundation.
GMA Public Affairs Social Media Section, on the other hand, was chosen to receive the Bantog Media, Institutional Award for Cyber Press.
GMA News Online contributor Mikael Angelo Francisco bagged first place in the Outstanding S&T Media Practitioner for Cyber Press - Professional Category.
Meanwhile, another GMA News Online contributor, Angelica Yang, was also among the winners — 3rd prize in Best S&T Media Practitioner for Cyber Press category.
"Indeed, one can achieve so many things, even if she is the youngest and most inexperienced newbie in the field. If I can do it, so can you," she said on Facebook.
The award is given in recognition for the important role of media practitioners on TV, radio, and internet, as well as in government and private practice, who made significant contributions in promoting science and technology information in the country through outstanding reporting and coverage.
The ceremony for the first ever Bantog: Science for the People Awards was held on Friday, September 28, 2018, at the Philippine International Convention Center. —KBK/KG, GMA News
