Lava, pyroclastic flow reach 4.6 kms on Mayon gully

Millions of cubic meters of lava and pyroclastic deposit current (PDC) have filled the Bonga Buyuan Gully at the Mayon Volcano.

As seen in this drone video, the lava and PDC flow along the gully has stretched to 4.6 kilometers based on the latest estimates of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

It continued to advance.

Bonga Buyuan is one of three gullies being monitored by PHIVOLCS as the volcano continues its restiveness.

The others are the Miisi and Basud Gullies.

The accumulated lava and pyroclastic deposits in three gullies is estimated to have reached 67 million metric tons combined.

The last few days has seen Mayon exhibit sporadic to near continuous lava flow and lava fountaining from the summit crater.

Alert Level 4 remained over Mayon Volcano and the eight-kilometer permanent danger zone is in effect.

Seventy thousand residents remain in evacuation centers. —NB, GMA News
