CamSur authorities investigate dead whale shark; poachers suspected

Investigators in Balatan, Camarines Sur, are investigating the carcass of a dead whale shark or "butanding" (Rhincodon typus) found off the coast of Balatan, Camarines Sur, on Wednesday.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard, the body was already in a state of decay, exuding a foul smell.

The whale shark was found to have been tied, leading authorities to suspect the work of poachers.
