Philippine serpent eagle rescued in Sorsogon
An ailing Philippine serpent eagle (Spilornis holospilus) was rescued in a forest in Sorsogon over the weekend, according to a report on GMA's Unang Balita.
The endemic bird was turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) immediately after its rescue.
The DENR is providing veterinary services for the bird. The environment bureau will set the bird free once it regained the strength.
The serpent eagle is found on most parts of the country except in Palawan. However, according to Birdlife International, the population of the Philippine serpent eagle is in decline due to habitat destruction.
The DENR claims the rescued bird may have fled captivity before it was discovered and rescued. — Kiersnerr Gerwin Tacadena/TJD, GMA News
