DENR catches loggers in Sorsogon protected area

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has cracked down on illegal loggers smuggling timbers out of a protected area in Sorsogon.

A report on GMA News To Go on Tuesday, March 1, said that the DENR acted on a tip from a concerned citizen and found a truckload of narra wood ready to leave Bulusan National Park.

The illegal loggers were reportedly operating under the direction of an official from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO).

Illegal narra wood planks harvested from the park were also found outside the local DENR office in Sorsogon.

PENRO officials have declined to comment, as the Sorsogon City Council continues its investigation into the matter.
