Viral photo of Kanlaon explosion a hoax, PHIVOLCS warns
State volcanologists cautioned the Public early Monday to be wary of photos on social media purporting to show the violent explosion of Kanlaon Volcano in Negros:
Please be cautioned that circulating photos in some posts related to Kanlaon Volcano's eruption yesterday, December 27, 2015 are actually those of the Sinabung eruption in Sumatra Indonesia in 2013.

The active Kanlaon has been restive since November, when a "minor ash eruption" was observed from the volcano. Similar eruptions were recorded last Saturday.

However, PHIVOLCS continues to maintain just Alert Level 1—indicating only "slight unrest" but with a permanent danger zone set up 4km in all directions around the crater—and sees no elevated activity as yet.
Despite this, photos purportedly of a massive explosion of Kanlaon have been circulating on social media.
