NASA working on 3D images of Pluto’s surface



 
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is working on creating stereo (or three-dimensional) images of Pluto’s surface, using images taken by their New Horizons spacecraft.
 
According to them, these images will be “key to understanding Pluto’s geological history.” For example, an image on their website displays a region of Pluto 180 miles wide. Analyzing it shows that the fracture in the upper left portion of the image is 1.6 km deep and the craters in the lower right are 2.1 km deep.
 
You’ll need red/blue 3D glasses to see the Pluto image in 3D. Here's how to make some using some common off-the-shelf items:
